A Diet for Navaratri

Nav means nine and also means new, ratri is night, the time for rest and rejuvenation … so nine days and nights to relax and become New… Nine nights of the Mother Divine.

Many people ask me what kind of a diet they should follow during the 9 days of Navaratri … Well, this is more or less whats served on the Ashram in Bangalore, and what one of the ayurvedic docs here recommended…

Days 1-3 : Only fresh fruits for all meals with juices … no sugar at all, drink lots and lots of water … Keep as much silence as possible

Days 4-7 : Add grains, have rice, khichidi with some veggies in it in the nights and nice clear and/or brothy soups for lunch with fresh fruits and juices, remember the water and no sugar

Day 8 and 9 : Feast!!!! over eat … stuff yourself to the brim and then eat more … whatever you want to eat (best is to come to ashram and let us feed you) … of course it should be only veggie stuff

Day 10 : Recover :) … Go for Vijay Yatra … Make lots of noise :)

devi
From day 5 or 6 vigorous dancing and singing in the evenings till last day

This time of the year is extremely auspicious for Meditation and Satsang … Spend more time meditating than you normally would.

Enjoy Navaratri!!

Jai Gurudeva!

love

Just what I was looking for! It looks like the Diet for 1-3 beats the tamas and Diet for 4-7 soothes the rajasic tendency. However, I have no clue about Diet 8-9 :)

Is this the same diet for anyone who is fasting for the 9 days? I don’t know much about these but know someone who is very stubborn on the “rules” of such fasts. Thanks! JDG

  19. There is no need to pay a small fortune for the lemon detox diet drink used by celebs such as beyonce. Here is the recipe.

Take a drinking glass and add 4oz of cold water

Add lemon juice from half of a freshly squeezed Lemon.

Add 2 tablespoons of Pure Maple Syrup.

Add a dash of Cayenne Pepper or ground ginger.

Using a spoon stir very well.

Add 4 oz of cold water then stir again.

    That?s it!
