Was Sri Sri really shot at?

There is a little bit of this going around… The Home Minister made a statement on the lines that the entire incident “may” be just a brawl between ashramites and “seems” not to be an attack on Sri Sri Himself.

The minister made this statement within a few hours of the incident, even before the preliminary investigations were completed (they are still going on), which according to me was hasty and premature. The more crooked of the media people of course snatched on this statement, dropped the “may” and the “seems” from it and started having a field day with their wild speculations.

Guruji’s response to this was simple and direct. He said “Wise men see a victim inside every culprit. The crooked ones will try to make a culprit out of a victim.”

I don’t think i need to say any more on this 🙂

Asuya and Anasuya

For 7 years, every week Guruji (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) used to send out a page of Knowledge to be read out and discussed at the satsangs happening all over the world. He used to call it the Knowledge fax … This was before email became popular enough for everyone to use :)

Every week we waited eagerly for what Guruji would say through these Knowledge Sheets, many times we would be with Him while He dictated them out and we compiled them. The atmosphere would always be full of wisdom coupled with big doses of mirth. And the Knowledge sheets themselves are always profound, sometimes quite funny…

Dinesh and i decided to do a commentary on them, reliving those precious moments spent with Guruji, reading them out for you and peppering them with stories and examples of how this Knowledge from Him has come alive for us in our lives.

Re reading them now, after so many years of Sadhana, Seva and Satsang has made us realise just how beautiful and precious these words from Him are … We are throughly enjoying ourselves making these videos, we know you will love watching them too.

Assassination bid on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

30th May 2010, Sunday evening at around 6:00 pm, after the public Satsang as Guruji was getting into His car, a shot was fired at Him by an unknown gunman. This shot hit one of the devotees, Vinay on his thigh.

Guruji is completely safe, and Vinay has some injury but is otherwise alright.

Even after this incident, Guruji carried on with His next programs which included appointments in Bangalore city, and another Satsang with the people doing the Ashtavakra Gita Course at the Ashram. It was a rousing, celebrative Satsang, almost no one had any clue about what had happened… until Guruji Himself talked about it.

He talked about it during Satsang and afterwards on the phone with various news channels.

He assured everyone that He was safe and absolutely alright. Also that Vinay was fine and is already walking around.

In response to who could have done this deed, He replied that we have no idea, we dont have any enemies really. The police is already on the scene doing their investigations.

But, He added that we (Art of Living) have done major amount of work in Bihar, Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, etc and many people who were treading the path of violence, laid down their arms and started to do social service there. This may not have gone down well with certain elements, and so some terrorist could have made this attempt.

He said it could have been much worse, that person could have fired several rounds and hurt many people, but by God’s Grace, he fired only one round and made off. When asked whether He would increase security around Himself, he replied that He didn’t like security in between Him and His devotees and almost dismissed off the entire event as a freak incident. He categorically said that He would continue to mixing and mingling with people just like always.

He said we shouldn’t only worry about security at the Ashram, but worry about the condition of our country. This will improve dramatically when many more people tread the path of Spirituality.

Many people have suffered because of violence. We need to drastically strengthen the voice of Non Violence.

He also had a message for the terrorists. He told them, I will welcome you here, sit for a few days in Satsang and see whether you still want to follow the path of violence.

He ended by reassuring everyone, not to panic at all, drop all fear. He said He was not afraid of things like this, and life at ashram would continue as normal.

Europe – Getting There

Bombay airport was a nightmare. We were made to stand in queues that went on forever to get through immigration and security. We must have stood in line for more than 2 hours, the ac was not working too well, and in some places in the hall not at all. It was suffocating. There was no consideration given for older people or even for people traveling business!

This is the Bombay Airport

This is the Bombay Airport

Bombay Airport - Zoomed in :)

Bombay Airport - Zoomed in 🙂

After that ordeal, we came to know that our flight was delayed… by 3 hours! Because of the construction work going on at Bombay airport, they had diverted our plane to Ahmedabad and it took its own time finding its way back to Bombay.

Instead of 2:50 am, we finally were air bound only at around 6:30 am. I was praying to Guruji for a miracle, to get upgraded to business class somehow, but it didn’t happen… however, the seats we got, were the last 2 seats in the economy class and were strangely comfortable and somehow the flight was not as bad as I had imagined it to be… which was a miracle!

It was an absolutely full flight, not a single seat was empty and after about 9 hours of flying we touched down at Frankfurt Airport. As soon as we got off the plane there was another queue to get to passport control, thankfully, this one was not as long as it seemed and we were through immigration in just a few minutes.

Lufthansa food in economy class sucks big time and both Dinesh and I were quite hungry by the time we got to Frankfurt central station to get on to a train to Vienna. I hunted around on the platform for veggie food and to my delight found many places serving really good veggie stuff and one place serving only vegetarian food. Europe is becoming easier to live in for a vegetarian.

We got onto our 8 hour train ride to Vienna through some stunning German and Austrian countryside. I finished my book, dinesh mostly slept, though I kept waking him up to see some beautiful vista or another. He would groggily wake up, look out of the window, give me a sleepy smile and promptly start snoring again.

We got into Vienna at 9:30 pm and were met there by Beni and Madan. Right from the station, we went for a drive to see some of the city’s beautiful buildings by night… Then we got home and I promptly went to bed… and suddenly it was the morning of the next day.

Making Wishes

This week, it’s time to learn to make wishes.

Many times i have heard Guruji say in satsang, tonight make a sincere wish from your heart, before going to sleep… many people do have things they really want, and most have reported that when they wished for it, they got it. But most people don’t know what to wish for…. so here is guide to making wishes 🙂

wish

As in asking questions to the Guru, the first thing you need is to be completely sincere. With love in your heart and with utmost sincerity, make your wish.

Your wish should be expressible in one small sentence. Don’t make a paragraph out of it. Wish for ONE thing only. Preferably, make it a positive sentence. So instead of saying i wish i don’t have to go to a boarding school to study, wish, i wish i can stay right here in Bombay to study.

Always add or better to your wish, so if Guruji wishes to give you much more or better that what you want, He has the option to do so 🙂

So instead of wishing, i wish i get a million dollars, say, i wish i get a million dollars or better (He may want to give you 10 million)…

When in doubt, wish that whatever is best, let that happen.

The best wish you can ask for is shraddha… there is no good english word for it, but it can be translated as faith. When you have the faith, then everything else will come to you…

Tera May

It was wonderful celebrating Guruji’s Birthday with Him in the beautiful German Ashram of Bad Antogast.

Many people from many countries shared some nice stories about the transformation that has happened in the places they come from, as well as in their own personal lives… Then Guruji talked, and the few sentences below are what i remember…

Art of Living is the thread that strings all the cultures together to make a beautiful garland…

The sign of ultimate luck is the ability to say, I want nothing, I am here for you. This comes from a state of being in abundance and contentment. It is not something you can force yourself to say… it can only come from deep Knowledge, not from denial.

I am here for you, I am yours… Tera Mai. This shouldn’t happen only once a year… it should be every single day. Many, many more people need to be blessed with this luck!

Happy Birthday Guruji!!!

Happy Birthday Guruji!!!

We bring Silence in all celebration and Celebration in Silence was what He said before leading all of us into a long deep blissful meditation. His Birthday gift to us…

btw, 13th May when translated into Hindi becomes Tera Mai, which also means I am yours.
Tera Mai

Asking Questions

I have seen many, many people ask Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, our Guruji extremely indeterminate questions and then get very disappointed when He chooses to ignore them or answer them vaguely.

Over the years, i have noticed Guruji taking special interest in some people and their queries… and have begun to see a pattern. It’s almost impossible to predict and Enlightened Being, but 8 times out of 10 i have seen Him give attention and answers when people have followed what i write below:

The very first thing you need to do is to have utmost sincerity for your question. Many people ask stuff quite flippantly, or to “test” Him and then get upset that He didn’t take them seriously. Sincerity is a big key.

Guruji at the LA Center

Guruji at the LA Center

Secondly, write out your question. Most people go completely blank when they are near Him and end up asking very foolish questions, not the one they wanted to ask at all…

Thirdly, don’t ask Him questions like, Guruji what should i do in my life? or What should i study? or Should i get married/divorced? etc … He will never live your life for you. Those are decisions you have to make. The stock answer for all these questions is usually Choice is yours, Blessings are mine 🙂

The way to ask these questions is to tell Him what it is you want to do, list choices, and tell Him whats your preference. Be ready to tell Him the pros and cons of every choice you have talked about, but don’t tell Him about these unless you are asked. Give Him all the relevant data that you have about what you are asking. When He knows you have put a lot of thought into the question, then He normally will spend time with you to bring you to whats best in your life for you. It is only then that you may get a straight answer.

For example, if you want to study further, you could ask Him, Guruji, i want to study further, i have finished my M.Sc. I can do an MBA either in India or in the US or i can do a P.hd. from IIT, could be tough to get in on a P.Hd program outside the country. I have a job offer, but i am not too keen on working. Later i either want to do a job in HR, though i am not too excited about that… i could also take up teaching in some nice college, i would love to do that. We don’t have any financial problems in the family, but my parents want me to do an MBA really, i would like to do the P.Hd, and later even become an Art of Living teacher. So what should i do?

Fourth, be ready to listen to what He says. Sometimes, He may tell you to do something that you simply don’t want to do. When you ask Him a question, be ready to listen to His answer. Quite a few want His stamp of approval on what they want to do and so disguise that as a question. You may not get the answer you want, and you need to be ready to listen and implement the answer you do get, however much you don’t like it. In the long run, you will find that doing exactly what He said is how to get the best deal for yourself in this lifetime 🙂

Even when everything is in place, He may not answer. Thats just the way it is. Wait for some more time and ask again, or mostly you will see that the situation you were bothered about has already resolved itself.

Finally, remember that He almost never will say no. In my 19 years with Him, He has told me to do something directly only 5 times, and said a no only thrice. When He says no, it really closes all possibilities in that direction, so unless you will get really harmed doing something, He will never say no… He will say stuff like we will see… This should be interpreted as no 🙂

Writing Him mail, or giving Him some question written on a piece of paper will guarantee a response from Him. Though almost never in the way you think He will respond 🙂

Let me end this part with this little quote i made up:

“In materialism, you may get what you want, but you almost never want what you get. In Spirituality, you will almost never get what you want, but you will ALWAYS want what you get!!”

Jai Gurudeva!
