The Roar of the Enlightened

How do you know you are sleeping?

You are sleeping and you get a dream. In the dream, a ferocious lion is chasing you, you run and run and run… and then the lion pounces on you with a deafening howl… and you wake up!

Then you know it was just a dream.

And you can laugh at it and yourself to be so scared of just a figment of your own imagination. And you know you are now awake and not sleeping or dreaming.

All the Sadhana we do, all the Knowledge that Guruji has bestowed upon us is like the lion. Roaring loudly at us to wake up to the Reality. We think that this world that we can see, touch, hear, smell and taste is real. The Sadhana is the roar, which is telling us not to get fooled by the five senses. The Knowledge commands us to question this seemingly solid existence and reach out for what is truly Real.

Guruji once defined “Truth” as “That which does not change.”

If you look around you intently, you will see that absolutely everything is changing. But, it is changing so slowly that you feel there is no change, you feel everything is the same, until you get an old photo of yourself out and look at how you used to look like 10 years ago 🙂

The point is, that you don’t notice the change. It is very subtle and very slow. And anything that changes is illusion. Illusion doesn’t mean that it is not there. It is there, but it changes. It’s not real and it is not the Truth. What you perceive with your five senses is not reality.

A Changing Universe

The good news is that when you realize that everything is indeed changing, then you also realize that there is some part within you that is not changing at all. You do need a stable point from which you can witness change.

If everything is changing, you cannot notice the change! It’s only when you can connect to the non changing aspect of yourself, that you actually perceive the change. Sadhana connects you to that non changing, eternal Reality residing within you. It gives you a glimpse, a hint, a whisper of infinity while you are still in your very finite body.

An actor acting a part as Romeo in a play knows he is acting. Once the play is over and curtains are down what if he still stays in character and refuses to accept that he is not Romeo. Keeps wanting his Juliet.  What can you say to that person? How can you convince him that he is actually not Romeo, he was simply playing the part of Romeo in a play…

You too are like that. So caught up with the illusion of the world and the illusion of who you think you are, that you refuse to accept the Truth about Yourself. You cannot see yourself as pure Bliss, radiating peace and joy. You have become an actor who cannot stop acting.

Sadhana, Knowledge and the Grace of the Guru rouse you up from this Grand Illusion. They make you notice how many roles you have already played and are still playing. They bring to your notice how there is something eternal, beyond all these roles that simply doesn’t change within you, regardless of which roles you have played, are now playing or will play in the future.

Like the lion, Sadhana and Knowledge wake you up from your slumber. Then you can laugh at the world. Then you can play with Maya.

Awaken. Listen to the roar of the Enlightened One.

The Wakeful One is the Enlightened One.

Jai Gurudeva!

Love

Bawa

    Beautiful!!

  12. vivek says:

Since ‘action’ has to be performed in the perceived world!! more so, for those and with those who might not have understanding of higher knowledge. Therefore two questions –
    1. Could it happen that enlightened one gets stuck with the higher knowledge and be action-less in perceivable world?..considering it to be meaning-less altogether!!…this is reverse of what you said about Romeo, that, this actor just sticks to his ‘real identity’ of ‘not being Romeo’ and forgets his action while in the show..!! (next question is a corollary -)
    2. Therefore, is it not necessary to be fully part of the world however changing and illusion it may be, for the sake of action and performing duties?.. and while doing so is it not so natural to experience that the world has to offer, which comes your way?..pls answer.

    • Bawa says:

An Enlightened One will act. But He is utterly dispassionate about the result of the action and so karma doesn’t touch Him. Buddha, Sri Ram, Lord Krishna, Sri Sri all act and take an active role in the world events around them… but they know the illusionary nature of the world and creation. They are utterly and firmly grounded in true Reality and ultimately only are here to show the less enlightened ones a way to absolute Bliss.

      • Suparna says:

This is what i realised …
When an actor is on stage, playing a particular role, would he do it halfheartedly? No! Even though he knows its only a performance…or rather, BECAUSE he knows its only a performance, he will give it 100%…He doesn’t mind getting punched by the villain, or getting dumped by his lover, his successes don’t excite him, his failures don’t bother him…

Same with life…knowing its only a ‘role-playing’ and in the end NOTHING really matters, will make one put 100% in every action 🙂
        Wonderful post, bawa!

This is a rip roaring post… very enjoyable and edifying… one little pun here… it motivates one to “gird your loins” and “be lions” in the rumble of life. Cheers. JGD

  27. Birjoo says:

Very Inspiring Bau! It reminds me of the passion of physicists-the pursuit of the fundamental, unchanging “Laws of Nature”. Conditions change, particles change, fields are dynamic and transient all the time, and yet the rules of the game by which Nature weaves these all remain-so universal and so coherent, unchanged! Who would have thought that the same forces that cause lightning in thunderstorms would one day be tapped to light up cellphone screens and car-headlights! Or that the laws of the same sparks of lightening drives neuronal pulses in the brain! Such diverse phenomena, yet such a profound unity! Makes me wonder if the “fundamental laws of nature” point to the properties of the same unchanging that witnesses these phenomena through this body! Perhaps like Carl Sagan said-“We are a way for the cosmos to know itself!”

  28. Aruna says:

    Very nice and refreshing.
    Jai Guru Dev

  29. alen says:

in the sentece “You too are like that. So caught up with the illusion..”
it would be fair if stands “We too are..”
Guruji is talking in that manner even if its out of this league:)
    with respect

  30. Shailendra Rana says:

    Dear Bau,

Happened to read Kashi bhaiya’s blog where he mentions how once he had asked “Guruji, how can my actions in my dream take me out of it? if they cant, then what is the point of doing sadhana to get liberation from this world existence?” and Guruji gives this simple yet very profound reply “In the dream, when a lion roars, you wake up!”.

You have explained this so very beautifully for us to imbibe in our daily life!

    Love,
    Shailendra

Have a question though not related to this post…

I come across these negative posts in different blogs/some magazines that write negative things about our organization and especially about Gurudev. Though lot of us have tried explaining things on different forums, they dont seem to listen.

Is it very difficult to get these people sit in our courses, give them kriya and give their inside a thorough rinsing? I am not able to understand how one can think negatively like this even after experiencing kriya?(Some of them claim to have done the course and say there is nothing great in kriya !!)

Is it their karma to be like this abusing masters and get into further cycles of births/deaths??

    Jai Gurudev

  42. Krishna says:

The best post from u till now…(everything is changing..and so is my perception abt what is good and what is best)…also liked Aparna’s comment….to be “in” the world and still be totally detached or rather dispassionate abt it is a challenge…but what bothers me Bau is dat despite knowing the illusory nature of the world i still willingly fall prey to my senses…like the mole in the Matrix part I..help.

  45. Gaurav Padhi says:

Thank you bawa for this amazing post.
u said :sadhana, knowledge and GURU GRACE.

i’m very greatful to get this knowledge during my days on earth. (I haven’t met guruji till now.)

    but one que.
is dadi wale baba ko guru kyu maan ne ka. i keep hearing from other volunteers and teachers he is chamatkari, and he is this he is that. then i feel, yes isko guru banaunga to meri toh chandi hi chandi, other side i feel na it is not correct.

sometimes i get such experiences i feel sooooo great wooow!!.
i become greatful. but this knowledge has come to me though though my teachers, and advance courses, so why not follow them.

and also one more thing when i look at the photo of guruji. i really get inspired….

can u plz clear the confusion……..
ok the main confusion is shri shri ravishankar ko guruji kyu maanne ka, becoz he is chamatkari, or……

why u hav given him the place of guru in ur life.
